It had lived on a boat, which you could tell before it was open. The case was pitted, the bezel insert had faded to gray and the crown threads were full of salt.
I cleaned the corrosion back by hand rather than machine, fitted a new crown and gaskets, and pressure tested it to fifty metres, which is honest for a case this age. The lume was left as it was: crumbling, and the only original thing on the dial. It is a watch to wear, not to swim in.
