Shaped movements are awkward to work on and easy to get wrong. This one had a broken balance staff and a crystal chipped at one corner, which had let in enough air over seventy years to brown the dial at the edges.
New staff turned and fitted, the movement serviced, a new flat crystal cut to the step. The dial was cleaned but deliberately not restored. The owner asked me twice whether it could be made to look new, and twice I said yes and asked him whether he wanted it to.
